I'm Russ Beazer. I'm a prosthetist here at Lethbridge Orthotics.

Question: How long have you worked at Lethbridge Orthotic-Prosthetic Services for?

I've been here just over two years.

Question: Why did you choose this career?

I was encouraged by some family members to look into orthotics and prosthetics, although they didn't say prosthetics. And once I shadowed orthotics, I thought, you know, that was what I wanted to do until I was able to shadow for prosthetics and really fell in love with it, and and the patients, and just the whole aspect of giving back.

Question: What is your favourite part of your job?

I get to give the patients something back where it allows them to go about their daily life and and function just - almost like anybody else.

Question: What has been one of your favourite cases?

It was a 10 or 11 year old boy. He needed a new leg. He's been growing and I made him a new socket, and I was able to align the foot a little bit differently, which enabled him to run a little bit better and walk a little bit better.

To be able to see the reaction in him and especially the parents was actually pretty cool, to see. They noticed it instantly. The change in the difference of the alignment of the foot.

Question: What are some fun facts about yourself?

I speak Spanish, I used to be really fluent. Whenever I can practice it, I practice it with some patients.

I live out in the country on an acreage. My hobbies are weightlifting and hunting, fishing, golfing. Just anything that can get me outdoors.

I have a wife and four kids. My oldest is now 10, and my youngest is five months. My kids like to workout and push themselves. My son is into Parkour, and he likes to test his strength and do things that other little boys at 10 years old can do.
